Senior System Administrator – Windows/SQL/Web & Cloud

About the role

We are seeking a Senior System Administrator to support a state government client across multiple agencies. The role spans Windows Server, SQL Server, IIS and cloud platforms (Azure and AWS) and offers a 12‑month contract with the possibility of yearly extension. It is a hybrid position based in Brisbane with mandatory on‑site days.

Key responsibilities

• Administer Windows, SQL and web servers – provisioning, configuration, monitoring and support.
• Manage Active Directory (GPOs, security groups, identity).
• Work with Azure and AWS services (VMs, Azure SQL PaaS, SQL Managed Instance, EC2).
• Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure Runbooks, Terraform and GitHub Actions.
• Lead or contribute to system upgrades, migrations and new technology roll‑outs.
• Produce system design documentation and mentor team members.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with Windows Server and the SQL Server stack.
• Advanced PowerShell scripting skills with proper error handling and modular logic.
• Proficiency with GitHub for version control.
• Structured problem‑solving approach and quick learning ability.
• Excellent communication of technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Based in Brisbane with full Australian work rights.
