District Medical Officer – Procedural & Non‑Procedural Pool (East Kimberley)

About the role

The District Medical Officer (DMO) pool supports WA Country Health Service in the East Kimberley region, delivering comprehensive health services to remote Aboriginal communities and the Kununurra Hospital catchment. Positions are available for both procedural (Obstetrics) and non‑procedural (Emergency Medicine) roles, as well as a Rural Generalist track.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑acuity emergency care, including thrombolysis for cardiac arrest post‑STEMI and fracture reductions.
• Perform emergency obstetric procedures such as caesarean sections during unexpected presentations.
• Deliver primary health care and scheduled outreach visits to Warmun, Halls Creek, Kalumburu, and Wyndham.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, allied health, Aboriginal Health Workers, and remote specialists via telehealth.
• Participate in on‑site ward, emergency, clinic, and remote primary‑care duties, ensuring continuous coverage.

Required profile

• Medical degree with appropriate registration (AHPRA) and specialist college assessment where applicable.
• Experience or training in emergency medicine, obstetrics, or rural generalist practice.
• Willingness to work in remote settings and undertake regular outreach travel.
• Commitment to teamwork and continuous professional development.

Required skills
