Accountant – Public Practice (Goulburn/Crookwell)

About the role

Laterals is seeking an experienced accountant to join its small, collaborative team in the Southern Tablelands. You will manage a real client load, building personal relationships with local business owners, farming families and tradespeople.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Complete tax returns and activity statements for individuals, businesses and primary producers.
• Research complex tax issues, leveraging a network of tax lawyers and specialists.
• Support audit engagements, including the preparation of general‑purpose financial statements.
• Work in client‑preferred accounting software, primarily Xero, as well as MYOB and QuickBooks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• CA or CPA qualified, or actively pursuing qualification (support provided).
• Minimum two years’ experience in public practice.
• Confidence using Xero and ability to learn other platforms quickly.
• Strong client communication skills – able to discuss matters beyond mere return preparation.
