Senior Lead - Customer Data Governance & Assurance

About the role

This role sits within Customer Proposition and is responsible for supporting the ownership, stewardship and assurance of Retail Customer Data. As a Senior Lead you will act as the recognised subject matter expert, combining deep knowledge of customer data, journeys, operational processes and end‑to‑end data flows with strong governance and assurance capability.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the recognised subject matter expert for Retail Customer Data, providing advice, challenge and guidance on data ownership, stewardship, governance and usage.
• Develop and maintain a deep understanding of customer data domains, profiles, critical data elements, source systems and operational processes.
• Build and maintain visibility of end‑to‑end customer data flows, lineage, transformations and downstream consumption across Retail.
• Assess data impacts from business initiatives, strategic programmes and technology changes, and provide practical guidance on data use and controls.
• Identify data risks, issues and control gaps, and partner with Technology, Risk, Privacy and Delivery teams to remediate and improve governance frameworks.

Required profile

• Strong experience in customer data management, data stewardship, governance, risk or assurance within a complex business and technology environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of end‑to‑end data flows, data lifecycles, lineage and operational processes.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking and stakeholder influencing skills, with ability to translate complex data concepts into business‑friendly language.
• Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries, including data migration, integration or transformation programmes.
