Senior Designer – Civil Infrastructure

About the role

Join Mackay Regional Council as a Senior Designer and shape the infrastructure that supports a growing region. You will work on a varied portfolio of civil projects from concept through to delivery, influencing designs that are seen and used by the community.

Key responsibilities

• Develop civil designs, drawings, estimates and technical documentation for roads, drainage, active transport, water, sewer and open space projects.
• Use survey data, design standards and technical judgement to create cost‑effective, constructible solutions using 12D, AutoCAD and other tools.
• Coordinate with project managers, construction teams, consultants, contractors and service authorities to resolve design issues.
• Provide technical guidance to other designers and help build capability within the design team.
• Manage priorities, deliver quality outputs on time and contribute to a collaborative, safety‑focused culture.

Required profile

• Experienced civil designer with strong practical design experience and a willingness to share knowledge.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership of work and communicate ideas clearly.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and ability to balance competing priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 12D and AutoCAD.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant project applications.
• Understanding of civil engineering design principles, standards and construction practices.
