About the role

We are seeking a Financial Accountant to manage the department’s asset and expenditure accounting functions. The role supports the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration’s mission to drive sustainable resource development in Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform fixed‑asset accounting activities including journals, reconciliations, capitalisation, disposals, depreciation, revaluations, stocktakes and asset register maintenance.
  • Process and reconcile monthly balance‑sheet accounts such as ROU assets and liabilities, accounts payable, accruals, provisions and pre‑payments.
  • Supervise the processing and reconciliation of credit‑card accounts.
  • Assist with accounts payable, RCTI and credit‑card queries, including payment runs.
  • Support the preparation of the annual FBT return and annual financial statements, providing information for internal and external audits.
  • Contribute to ongoing reporting requirements and annual declarations for internal and external purposes.
  • Identify and implement best‑practice financial management and accounting processes, particularly for fixed assets.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership of CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, or another recognised professional accounting body (advantageous).
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with Power Query and Power BI is a plus.
