Bookkeeper / Accountant (Management & Tax)

About the role

We are seeking a friendly, organised and hard‑working Bookkeeper/Accountant to manage the accounting, tax and payroll functions for a wholesale and retail steel fabrication business and its associated entities, including trusts and an SMSF. The role is based at our head office in Smithfield with on‑site parking and easy access to the T‑Way.

Key responsibilities

• Process payroll for 40+ staff and handle related compliance tasks.
• Manage debtor and creditor accounts, perform reconciliations and oversee payments.
• Maintain asset and depreciation schedules, general ledger, journal entries and month‑end close.
• Prepare GST, BAS, FBT and TPAR filings and produce monthly management reports.
• Provide timely information to external accountants and tax agents.
• File and manage archiving processes, support ad‑hoc projects and assist the Managing Director with general administration.

Required profile

• Tertiary accounting qualification with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of general taxation, GST/BAS, FBT and TPAR.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Methodical, thorough approach with the ability to meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with a variety of accounting software packages, preferably MYOB EXO.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range $75,000–$95,000 per year (negotiable based on experience).
