About the role

The Head of Merchant Pricing and Commercial Risk will lead the merchant pricing strategy, risk settings and scheme relationships for ANZ's Transaction Banking division, supporting the bank’s 2030 strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and govern merchant pricing strategy, ensuring balance between customer value, competitiveness, profitability and risk.
• Oversee pricing models, profitability analysis, margin management and maintain strong pricing controls and approval processes.
• Identify and remediate merchant pricing and commercial risk issues, implementing sustainable controls and governance.
• Define and manage merchant risk settings across the customer lifecycle, including underwriting, fraud, chargebacks and settlement risk.
• Maintain compliance with payment schemes, manage relationships with schemes and key stakeholders.
• Lead a high‑performing team and collaborate with Product, Risk, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Operations and Distribution to optimise pricing performance and risk exposure.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in merchant acquiring, payments or transaction banking with deep understanding of payment acceptance, settlement and scheme economics.
• Proven track record in pricing strategy, commercial management and executive‑level decision support.
• Strong financial and analytical capability, including revenue, cost and scenario modelling.
• Demonstrated risk management experience across merchant onboarding, underwriting, exposure monitoring and fraud.
• Experience establishing governance frameworks, controls and remediation processes.
• Excellent stakeholder leadership and ability to influence senior leaders across multiple functions.
