About the role
The Technical STEM Trainer will join the Bureau of Meteorology’s training team in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, delivering hands‑on vocational training to adult staff on weather observation techniques.
Key responsibilities
- Train adults to take accurate weather measurements, observe conditions, and classify equipment exposure.
- Instruct on safe release and handling of weather balloons and related observing systems.
- Develop and deliver training programs that support Bureau staff in operating and maintaining meteorological observing equipment across Australia.
Required profile
- Background in geography, geology, environmental science, meteorology or a related STEM field.
- Passion for practical, hands‑on teaching rather than traditional classroom instruction.
- Willingness to learn new technical skills and work in field‑based environments.
Required skills
- Experience with weather measurement techniques and equipment.
- Ability to safely handle and release weather balloons.
