System Administrator

About the role

Emesent is seeking a System Administrator to join a small IT team reporting to the Director of IT & AI. The role covers design, operation, security and continuous improvement of both on‑premises and cloud infrastructure, supporting a globally distributed workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Administer Windows Server services (Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file and certificate services) and provide L2/L3 support for complex incidents.
• Manage Microsoft 365 suite (Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, Intune) and endpoint provisioning across Windows, macOS and Linux.
• Maintain VMware and Linux compute clusters as well as AWS environments, including capacity planning and performance tuning.
• Operate VPN, network infrastructure (switching, routing, firewalls, wireless) for the Brisbane HQ and remote sites.
• Lead disaster‑recovery, backup testing and business‑continuity initiatives.
• Implement identity and access management using Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, SSO, MFA and automated provisioning to SaaS and AWS.
• Enforce endpoint security, patch management, vulnerability remediation and monitor security alerts.
• Document architecture, manage change processes and support compliance and audit activities.

Required profile

• 5+ years of systems administration experience in mixed Windows/Linux enterprise environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Proven ability to mentor junior service‑desk staff and drive process improvements.

Required skills

• Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, certificate services.
• Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune).
• Linux administration (Ubuntu and/or RHEL), scripting in PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• VMware vSphere/ESXi, AWS infrastructure, capacity and performance management.
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls, VPN, enterprise Wi‑Fi.
• Identity management protocols (SAML, OIDC, SCIM) and least‑privilege RBAC.
• Endpoint security tools (Intune, Defender, EDR) and vulnerability/patch management.
