Specialist Medical Practitioner – Alcohol & Drug Service

About the role

The Specialist Medical Practitioner will join the Alcohol and Drug Service North in Launceston, delivering specialist care to clients with complex alcohol and drug dependence. You will work within a multidisciplinary team and provide clinical leadership for the Pharmacotherapy Program.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to maintain high‑quality public and private sector pharmacotherapy services.
• Provide specialist medical advice to private prescribers on safe management of complex pharmacotherapy clients.
• Exercise independent clinical judgement in delivering care and managing risk for clients with opioid dependence, chronic pain and mental health comorbidities.

Required profile

• Accredited methadone and buprenorphine prescriber in Tasmania (or ability to obtain accreditation quickly).
• Demonstrated knowledge of evidence‑based practices, harm‑minimisation philosophy and risk assessment in alcohol and drug treatment.
• Commitment to professional integrity, ethical practice and continuous improvement.
