Software Engineer - Industrial Microgrid Control

About the role

PowerTec, which makes microgrid and power supply resilience products and systems, is looking for a Software Engineer for its Industrial Microgrid Systems team. The position is based at the PowerTec office and factory in Mitcham, Victoria, and requires on-site presence and occasional project travel; WFH is only possible irregularly and only after a successful probation. It is a regular, full-time role starting as soon as possible.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver the PaDECS-Cloud platform interface, including back-end data handling, architecture design, coding, integration testing, functional verification testing and documentation.
• Extend the PaDECS Cloud application (Amazon Web Services) for aggregated microgrid monitoring and control, front-end only, optionally full-stack.
• Analyse the existing code base, support deployments, updates and bug fixes, and maintain a documented, version-controlled repository.
• Improve the tool landscape, design standards and DevOps process for the PaDECS product.
• Support development and site commissioning, and occasionally travel to customer power systems sites.

Required profile

• University degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or a related subject, or long-standing professional software engineering experience.
• Knowledge of industrial or utility systems monitoring and control, and of energy, utility and industrial engineering fundamentals.
• Experience designing and building industrial UI/UX.
• Australian residency or a valid visa for at least 1 year; work visa sponsorship is possible.
• Ability to travel occasionally for several days and to work in a scale-up environment with limited support functions.

Required skills

• .NET with C# for Windows Forms GUIs; Blazor is a plus.
• Web frameworks such as React.js, Node.js or Angular.js.
• Cloud front-end and back-end development, ideally with Amazon Web Services.
• Databases and cloud-based architectures.
• Agile, DevOps (GitHub, JIRA) and basic utility SCADA are a plus.
