Senior Structures & Payloads Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a senior Structures & Payloads Design Engineer to join Boeing Defence Australia’s team supporting the E‑7A Wedgetail airborne surveillance, communications and battle‑management system. The position is based at RAAF Base Williamtown (with options for Brisbane or Adelaide) and will involve delivering major and minor capability upgrades from concept through to in‑service aircraft.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor junior engineers within a multi‑disciplinary design team.
• Provide technical leadership for multiple aerospace mechanical/structural design projects.
• Develop modification and installation designs for equipment on mid‑service life aircraft.
• Produce engineering artefacts including design definitions, analysis reports, certification evidence and modification instructions.
• Perform basic and detailed structural analyses (static strength, durability/fatigue, damage tolerance) using classical techniques and Boeing tools.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship to meet defence security requirements.
• Bachelor of Engineering in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical or a related discipline meeting Engineers Australia membership criteria.
• Minimum 5 years experience in aviation engineering, design development, investigations and authorised documentation for aircraft structures and subsystems.
• Experience creating engineering artefacts within a regulated aviation environment (e.g., Defence Aviation Safety Regulation, CASA, FAA, EASA) is highly desired.
