Senior Manager Operations Risk, Group Operations

About the role

The Senior Manager Operations Risk for Group Operations will provide independent second‑line oversight of operational risk across ANZ’s Retail Operations, Complaints and Collections functions. You will lead assurance activities for key projects, challenge risk assessments and ensure that risk frameworks are embedded throughout end‑to‑end value chains.

Key responsibilities

• Lead second‑line oversight for Retail Operations, Complaints and Collections, including Project Fortify, PACT and ASIC matters.
• Independently challenge material risks, risk assessments and control effectiveness across end‑to‑end value chains.
• Prioritise emerging and systemic risks, escalate material control gaps and oversee remediation delivery.
• Validate closure readiness, assess residual risk and ensure evidence is sufficient for risk acceptance.
• Provide independent risk advice and a “Voice of Risk” to senior leaders and governance forums.
• Assure committee papers and executive reporting accurately reflect key risks and decisions.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of non‑financial risk frameworks, operational risk and regulatory expectations.
• Ability to interpret complex risk information and apply sound judgement in fast‑moving environments.
• Proven capability to provide constructive challenge and commercially grounded advisory leadership at senior levels.
• Deep knowledge of the retail banking environment and its value‑chain activities.
• Critical thinking, decision‑making and ability to evaluate evidence, trade‑offs and impacts.
• Excellent influencing and executive communication skills, with confidence to challenge at senior governance forums.
• Systems thinking to connect risks and dependencies across initiatives, portfolios and value chains.
