Senior Legal Counsel - Mining Services

About the role

A substantial international mining services business is recruiting a Senior Legal Counsel for its Brisbane head office. You will work closely with the General Counsel as their genuine second-in-command, advising on major mining services contracts, operational matters and broader legal and commercial issues. The role combines hands-on commercial work, exposure to senior executives and the Board, and contributes to a growing business with major projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate major mining services, procurement, equipment supply and construction-related contracts.
• Advise on tenders, contract variations, claims, commercial negotiations and operational risk.
• Work with commercial and operational teams to give practical, solutions-focused legal advice.
• Assist with corporate governance, compliance, risk management and broader business advisory matters.
• Support senior management and contribute to strategic projects and business initiatives.

Required profile

• Approximately 10+ years of professional experience as a lawyer.
• Background in mining, resources, energy, construction, infrastructure or major projects; mining or mining services experience is particularly attractive, but strong construction and major projects backgrounds are also welcome.
• Sound commercial judgement and confidence engaging with senior executives and operational stakeholders.
• Practical, collaborative approach and interest in being closely involved in the business.

Required skills

• Strong commercial contracting, drafting and negotiation experience.
• Understanding of complex operational contracts and the commercial issues throughout their lifecycle.
