Junior Immigration Lawyer (0-2 Years PAE)
Katsaros & Associates · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
Katsaros & Associates, a specialist immigration law firm in Brunswick, Melbourne, is looking for an ambitious Junior Immigration Lawyer (0-2 years post-admission experience). This is a full-time, client-facing position that is not a back-office drafting role: you will work directly with the Principal and senior lawyers on a wide range of immigration matters, from consultations and preliminary advice to drafting complex applications and submissions and managing files.
Key responsibilities
- Client engagement: hold initial consultations, assess eligibility, explain strategy, scope and fees, follow up enquiries and prepare disclosure statements, costs agreements and engagement documents.
- Legal practice: prepare and lodge Australian visa applications, draft submissions, statutory declarations and correspondence, research migration legislation, policy and case law, liaise with the Department of Home Affairs, the Administrative Review Tribunal, the Federal Court, medical practitioners and employers, and assist on complex litigation and review matters.
- Technology: use the firm's approved AI tools for research, drafting, document review and file management, and critically verify all AI-assisted work.
- Professional obligations: keep accurate trust account records, record billable work and maintain organised electronic files.
Required profile
- Ideally admission as an Australian lawyer (or eligibility for imminent admission).
- Up to two years' post-admission experience; immigration law experience is highly regarded but not essential.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport and turn conversations into outcomes, and confidence discussing fees and scope with clients.
- Strong digital literacy, with a genuine interest in AI and legal technology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong legal research and analytical ability, and the ability to handle multiple matters at once.
What we offer
- Salary of $60,000-$75,000 plus superannuation.
- Direct mentoring from an experienced Principal and training in AI-enabled legal workflows.
- Exposure to complex migration matters and significant client interaction from the start.
- Supportive team culture, modern offices in Brunswick, and clear career progression.
To apply, send a resume, a cover letter with an example of how you won someone's trust or business, and an academic transcript if recently admitted. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
