Senior Lawyer – Institutional Legal Group (Diversified Industries & Growth)

About the role

As a Senior Lawyer in the Institutional Legal Group, you will provide business‑oriented legal support to ANZ’s relationship banking businesses, focusing on the Diversified Industries and Growth portfolio. You will work closely with credit, risk, compliance and enablement teams to deliver timely, commercial advice that helps the bank achieve its strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, amend and negotiate facility documents, letters of offer, security agreements, guarantees and related contracts.
• Advise internal stakeholders on ANZ’s rights and obligations under commercial agreements and regulatory frameworks.
• Instruct and manage external counsel to ensure cost‑effective, high‑quality legal services.
• Participate in internal projects, supporting the business in meeting strategic goals.
• Deliver training and updates on significant legal developments to business units.
• Collaborate with credit, risk, compliance and enablement teams to ensure consistent risk management.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the legal team.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with extensive post‑qualification experience, preferably in banking, corporate or financial services law.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice.
• Strong negotiation and drafting skills with attention to detail.
• Experience working with external counsel and managing legal projects.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
