About the role
This senior position sits on the Executive Team of ACT Leave, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and Registrar. You will design and embed the governance, legal, risk, assurance and enforcement framework that underpins a statutory authority, and you may act as CEO/Registrar during periods of leave.
Key responsibilities
- Provide trusted governance advice to the CEO, Registrar, Board and its committees, delivering frank and accountable recommendations.
- Lead the development and implementation of ACT Leave’s risk and assurance framework, including risk appetite, registers, internal audit and fraud‑integrity controls.
- Oversee the enforcement function to ensure compliance with the Long Service Leave (Portable Schemes) Act 2009.
- Act as Chief Executive Officer and Registrar when required, exercising statutory authority.
- Manage external legal counsel and coordinate legal risk, regulatory reporting and enforcement escalations.
- Build the governance and risk team from the ground up – design the function, recruit, develop staff and embed a culture of partnership.
- Contribute to strategic planning and the organisation’s Strategic Plan as a senior executive.
Required profile
- Proven track record establishing or leading governance, risk, regulatory or legal functions in a complex environment.
- Strong understanding of Australian administrative law, statutory interpretation and government accountability frameworks, or the ability to master them quickly.
- Experience providing senior‑level advice to CEOs, Boards and senior executives.
- Demonstrated capability to design and implement risk, assurance and enforcement processes.
- Leadership experience building high‑performing teams and fostering a culture of governance and risk partnership.
