Director Legal

About the role

KBR is seeking a Director Legal to lead its Australian legal team, supporting high‑value Defence projects across multiple locations. The role combines strategic legal leadership with hands‑on involvement in complex, high‑risk matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of legal services for Defence projects, providing strategic advice on complex, business‑critical issues.
• Draft, negotiate, review and approve complex commercial, government and quasi‑government contracts.
• Partner with senior business leaders on major bids, tenders and contracting strategy.
• Oversee disputes, claims and investigations, coordinating external counsel as needed.
• Mentor and develop senior legal counsel and other team members, driving continuous improvement of legal policies and governance.

Required profile

• Admission as an Australian legal practitioner with a current practising certificate.
• Extensive post‑qualification experience, including significant in‑house legal work.
• Proven success leading high‑performing legal teams in Australia or a comparable common‑law jurisdiction.
• Ability to hold an Australian Government Baseline security clearance (or higher).

• Deep expertise in Australian Government contracting, commercial agreements and regulatory compliance.
• Strong commercial acumen and ability to provide pragmatic, business‑focused legal advice.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills with senior executives.
