Purchasing Officer – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

Alcon is seeking a Purchasing Officer for a 12‑month contract to support its manufacturing operations. You will work closely with engineering and production teams to ensure the timely procurement of critical components and tooling.

Key responsibilities

• Issue and manage purchase orders in line with approved specifications, drawings and change controls.
• Ensure timely delivery of long‑lead and critical items to support engineering builds, validation activities and production schedules.
• Coordinate RFQs, supplier technical reviews and cost analyses for complex engineered parts and tooling.
• Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing to source newly designed tooling, fixtures and custom components from prototype through production release.
• Identify, qualify and onboard suppliers in compliance with medical‑device quality system requirements (ISO 13485, FDA QSR).

Required profile

• Minimum 3 + years procurement or sourcing experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands‑on experience purchasing technical parts such as CNC‑machined components, optical elements (lenses, prisms, mirrors), electronics (PCBAs) and plastic injection‑molded parts.
• Strong knowledge of Excel and MS Office.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, organized with strong time‑management.
• Analytical mindset, risk‑mitigation capability and good negotiation skills.
• Full Australian work rights – no visa sponsorship or relocation provided.
