About the role
We are seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Control System Engineer to join Yara’s Pilbara operations in Karratha. The role reports to the Engineering & Reliability Superintendent and serves as the subject‑matter expert for instrumentation, control, analysers and safety systems across our ammonia and technical ammonium nitrate plants.
Key responsibilities
- Lead lifecycle management of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), including HAZOPs, LOPAs, SIL assessments, testing and validation.
- Develop and govern instrumentation, control and alarm management standards, philosophies and engineering specifications.
- Drive troubleshooting, root‑cause investigations and reliability improvements for critical plant equipment and control systems.
- Lead instrumentation and control aspects of capital projects, plant modifications and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Develop long‑term asset, maintenance and obsolescence strategies for instrumentation, SIS, fire‑and‑gas systems, analysers and field devices.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering.
- 12+ years’ experience in petrochemical, gas processing, oil refining or similar process industries.
- Professional certification such as MIEAust; functional safety certification (e.g., TÜV) is highly regarded.
- Proven experience supporting plant reliability and brownfield capital projects, including commissioning.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of DCS, PLC and ESD systems, including configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems, HAZOP, LOPA and SIL assessments.
- Proficiency with SAP, instrumentation management systems and Microsoft Office.
