Reliability and Testing Engineer – Manufacturing (12‑month contract)

About the role

Alcon is seeking a Reliability and Testing Engineer to lead environmental and reliability testing activities for its manufacturing portfolio. The role focuses on characterising product reliability, executing verification and validation (V&V) tests, and driving improvements that enhance manufacturability and long‑term performance.

Key responsibilities

• Define reliability testing requirements and develop sub‑assembly or system‑level test plans based on product specifications.
• Plan and execute V&V and reliability test programs, including pre‑compliance, drop, shock, vibration, HALT, HTOL, thermal cycling, and mechanical wear‑out tests.
• Create test protocols, set up test apparatus, run tests, analyse data, and produce technical reports.
• Apply Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, and statistical methods to identify failure patterns and support defect elimination.
• Coordinate with external test bodies for regulatory compliance and develop test fixtures with electro‑ and opto‑mechanical elements.
• Troubleshoot issues with units under test, test tools, software, and instrumentation.
• Analyse failures, pinpoint design or manufacturing problems, and assist in implementing corrective actions.

Required profile

• Engineering or Science qualification.
• Minimum 3 years of experience testing mechanical and electronic systems in a reliability‑driven environment, preferably in optical or medical devices.
• Hands‑on experience with environmental and accelerated lifetime testing.
• Familiarity with international regulatory standards such as IEC 60601, ISTA, ISO/IEC.
• Ability to work within a Quality Management System and adhere to relevant standards.
