Production Engineer – Mechanical/Structural/Electrical

About the role

BAE Systems Australia is seeking a Production Engineer to join the Hunter Class Frigate Program in Osborne, South Australia. Reporting to the Production Engineering Team Lead, you will provide engineering advice that enables production and trades within your mechanical, structural or electrical domain.

Key responsibilities

• Review reported issues, conduct technical investigations and root‑cause analysis.
• Liaise with stakeholders and subject‑matter experts to gather system insights.
• Deliver engineering assessments and recommendations to the Technical Authority to ensure as‑built products match design intent.
• Act as a communication link between Production and the wider business, supporting effective issue‑management processes.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or diploma, or relevant trades certificates (Mechanical, Electrical, Structural) with production experience.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with diverse stakeholders.
• Eligibility for a Baseline Defence security clearance.

Required skills

• Interpretation of CAD models and detailed design drawings.
• Technical documentation analysis, including fabrication and assembly drawings.
• Root‑cause analysis and engineering assessment techniques.
• Knowledge of auxiliary systems such as piping and HVAC.
• Experience with shipboard outfitting, marine coatings, welding, and hull‑structure fabrication/repair.
