Principal Hydrographic Surveyor

About the role

Join Fugro’s leading hydrographic team and take charge of some of Australia’s most significant marine spatial projects. You will plan, deliver and provide technical leadership on complex HIPP surveys while collaborating across multidisciplinary disciplines such as airborne LiDAR, geophysics and geotechnical investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of HIPP hydrographic survey projects, from mobilisation through reporting and client handover.
• Oversee data acquisition, processing and QA/QC to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Act as technical lead for survey operations, equipment set‑up, calibration and methodology selection.
• Provide technical input for tender responses and support operations teams on marine geophysical, geotechnical, positioning and construction projects.

Required profile

• Degree or recognised qualification in Hydrographic Surveying.
• Level 1 Hydrographic Surveyor certification, or demonstrated competence and motivation to achieve it shortly.
• Proven experience delivering vessel‑based hydrographic surveys, including acquisition, processing, QA/QC and reporting.
• Experience on offshore, coastal, ports or marine infrastructure projects is preferred.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of multibeam echosounders.
• Proficiency with GNSS positioning systems and survey control.
• Expertise in industry‑standard hydrographic software.
• Hands‑on experience with vessel‑based data acquisition and QA/QC processes.
