Principal Electrical Engineer (Buildings)

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex building services across a diverse portfolio of projects in Melbourne. You will work with multidisciplinary teams on sectors such as health, defence, transport, data centres and sports facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of sophisticated electrical engineering solutions, ensuring safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance.
• Act as senior technical authority, reviewing and guiding electrical design, installation strategies and system integration.
• Oversee multiple projects concurrently, balancing technical rigor, programme delivery and client expectations.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to integrate lighting, power distribution, fire and life safety, and low‑voltage systems.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional development.

Required profile

• 12+ years of electrical engineering experience in building services consultancy, senior contracting or government roles.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and RPEV/RPEQ registration preferred.
• Deep knowledge of Australian Standards, building codes and electrical systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a passion for mentoring.
• Australian citizenship preferred; defence clearance highly regarded.
