Principal Designer – Rail Infrastructure

About the role

KBR is seeking a Principal Designer to join the Suburban Rail Loop East Alliance in Melbourne. This permanent position will focus on delivering structural engineering services for a major rail infrastructure project.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and drafting activities within a multidisciplinary team to provide structural engineering solutions for rail and related infrastructure.
• Collaborate with digital engineering, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, civil and other design disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Coach and mentor junior designers, fostering a collaborative environment that drives efficiency and growth.

Required profile

• Qualification in drafting or engineering technology with experience on infrastructure projects.
• Strong communication skills and a creative, detail‑oriented approach to design.
• Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary environment and engaging with stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Bentley software suite, especially OpenBuildings Designer.
• Knowledge of structural engineering principles for rail and civil projects.
• Ability to produce detailed design documentation and coordinate project activities.
