Principal Communications Advisor (AO7) - Road Infrastructure Program

About the role

A Queensland Government agency delivering a major road infrastructure program across the Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim regions is looking for a senior communications and engagement lead. The role sits in the Communications and Governance team of the South Coast Region and gives high-level support to program and program managers. It is an AO7 equivalent, full-time, PAYG contract based in Nerang, running from 4 January 2027 to 31 December 2027 with a possible extension.

Key responsibilities

• Lead community and stakeholder engagement and risk and issues management for a major infrastructure project
• Develop high-level stakeholder engagement strategies
• Monitor media trends and recommend opportunities for proactive comment
• Advise on stakeholder risk assessment and issues management
• Prepare and review ministerial correspondence, briefing notes, executive correspondence and consultation collateral to corporate standards
• Research and prepare reports and submissions on project issues
• Build working relationships with community groups, NGOs, public transport operators, industry and other government agencies

Required profile

• Senior communications and engagement experience in a major infrastructure or government environment
• Confidence leading public consultation and managing sensitive issues with the community
• Ability to write clear ministerials, briefing notes and executive letters
• Current Queensland C class driver's licence or equivalent
• Willingness to undergo a criminal history check
• Qualifications in journalism, communications or engagement
• IAP2 or equivalent training in community engagement and public participation
