Principal Commissioning Manager – ETCS Level 2 Deployment

About the role

Hitachi Rail seeks an experienced Principal Commissioning Manager to lead Test & Commissioning activities for a major ETCS Level 2 rail transformation program in Brisbane. The role oversees multidisciplinary teams and ensures safe, efficient integration of signalling systems into an operational railway environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall Test & Commissioning delivery strategy across multiple work packages.
• Coordinate T&C managers, engineers and delivery partners to maintain consistent processes, standards and reporting.
• Manage interfaces between signalling, telecommunications, rolling stock, infrastructure and operations stakeholders.
• Oversee factory, site, integration, dynamic, shadow‑operations and entry‑into‑service testing activities.
• Chair governance forums, provide executive reporting and drive readiness reviews.
• Support possession planning to minimise disruption to live railway operations.

Required profile

• Engineering degree with eligibility for Engineers Australia membership and RPEQ registration (preferred).
• Minimum 15 years of railway systems delivery experience, including senior testing and commissioning roles.
• Proven track record delivering ETCS Level 2, Level 1, CBTC, ATP or major signalling projects in brownfield environments.
• Extensive experience with systems integration, safety assurance, RAMS, configuration control and acceptance processes.
• Strong leadership of multidisciplinary teams and management of multiple contractors.
