Field Operations Engineer

About the role

Join Breaker as a Field Operations Engineer to turn software releases into autonomous robots that fly real missions. You will integrate hardware, provision platforms, and take them into the field, with a clear path toward forward‑deployed engineering across Australia and the US.

Key responsibilities

• Bring new airframes, radios, datalinks and companion computers online – flash releases, configure, tune and debug the full hardware‑software chain.
• Plan, execute and debrief end‑to‑end field testing campaigns, capture clean data and turn issues into reproducible bug reports.
• Own the hardware registry and workshop inventory, ensuring rapid deployment readiness for Sydney and supporting the Austin team.
• Support demos and deployments in Australia and internationally with on‑site hardware, communications and configuration assistance.

Required profile

• Early‑career or a few years of experience; strong hands‑on attitude and ability to solve hard engineering problems.
• Australian citizenship; willingness to travel roughly one week per month, including international trips.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a passion for hardware and field work.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with drones/UAVs (flight controllers, ESCs, radios, props).
• Working knowledge of ArduPilot, PX4 or similar flight stacks.
• Strong Linux command‑line skills and experience flashing/configuring embedded or edge compute (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson).
• Scripting ability in Python or similar for automation.
• CAD and 3D‑printing for hardware fixes and fixtures.
