Peer Worker – Community Mental Health Support

About the role

Wellways is seeking an experienced Peer Worker to join Connected Care, a statewide mental health service. You will use your lived experience to build authentic connections and support participants in their recovery across Northwest Tasmania.

Key responsibilities

• Develop respectful relationships that foster shared learning and growth.
• Use lived experience intentionally to build trust and meaningful connection.
• Support participants to explore identity, wellbeing, purpose and meaning.
• Facilitate connections to community, culture, family and valued roles.
• Adapt peer support approaches to reflect participants' strengths, goals and aspirations.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work, Community Services or equivalent experience.
• Personal lived experience of mental health challenges or engagement with services.
• Understanding of peer work values, recovery‑oriented and trauma‑informed practice.
• Right to work in Australia and a current driver’s licence.
• Clear National Police Record Check and relevant Working with Vulnerable People/Children checks.

Required skills

• Ability to deliver field‑based outreach and travel as required.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
