Patrol Truck Operator – Street Cleansing

About the role

Merri-bek City Council is seeking an internal candidate to join the Street Cleansing Unit as a Patrol Truck Operator. This full‑time permanent position (35 hours per week) offers a salary of $73,000 plus superannuation and the ability to transfer or take Long Service Leave within the council.

Key responsibilities

• Operate patrol trucks and associated sweeping equipment on early‑morning rosters (shifts start between 3:30 am and 7:30 am).
• Perform general cleaning of streets, car parks, right‑of‑ways, parks, reserves and public spaces.
• Remove illegally dumped rubbish, litter, dead animals and sharps (e.g., syringes).
• Sweep shopping centres, residential streets, bus shelters and footpaths using mechanical and manual methods.
• Collect litter bins and assist with pits and drain cleaning as required.
• Participate in overtime, including Saturday duties, to meet service demands.

Required profile

• Current employee of Merri‑bek City Council or eligible for internal transfer.
• Willingness and ability to work early‑morning shifts and follow rostered hours.
• Physically fit to handle manual cleaning tasks and operate heavy equipment safely.
• Team‑oriented with a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe community environment.
