Northern Region Underwriting Manager – Accident & Health

About the role

The Northern Region Underwriting Manager will lead Accident & Health underwriting across Australia and New Zealand, driving growth, managing a team of underwriters and ensuring compliance with Arch’s policies and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal A&H business within delegated authority and achieve planned results.
• Lead, coach and manage the regional underwriting team, handling performance reviews, recruitment and onboarding.
• Develop and execute the region’s growth and distribution strategies, including product development and broker relationships.
• Provide monthly reporting, monitor claims activity and coordinate reinsurance actions.
• Ensure accurate entry of submissions, quotes and policies in Arch’s underwriting systems.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of experience in the Australian/New Zealand Accident & Health insurance market.
• Strong network of broker/client relationships and proven people‑management capability.
• Tertiary degree in finance, commerce, law, accounting or related field; professional insurance certifications preferred.

Required skills

• Technical and analytical skills with ability to read and analyse financial statements.
• Regulatory and compliance awareness in the A&H sector.
• Proficiency in MS Office and Arch’s underwriting systems.
