Natural Areas Officer

About the role

A Noosa Shire Council Environmental Services team is looking for an energetic, dedicated Natural Areas Officer to work on the frontline of bushland management and environmental conservation across the reserve network. Reporting to the Natural Areas Supervisor, the role preserves and enhances Noosa's natural assets while keeping reserve access safe for the community. It is advertised as a casual position with full-time hours.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver ecological restoration using small plants, hand-held tools and weed management equipment.
• Inspect, construct and maintain trails and reserve infrastructure to promote safe access and habitat connectivity.
• Monitor and record field operations and reserve conditions using GIS mapping tools, Technology One and MS Office.
• Safely apply herbicides and keep statutory records in line with the Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control (ACDC) Act 1966.
• Clean and maintain tools, small plants and vehicles, and carry out pre-start inspections.
• Answer community enquiries and represent Council professionally.
• Take part in emergency responses (floods, storms, bushfires) and the after-hours roster as required.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management, or equivalent demonstrated industry experience.
• Strong knowledge of local flora, fauna, regional ecosystems and environmental weed management.
• Manual 'C' class driver's licence with 4WD operating experience.
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Unrestricted Commercial Operator's Licence under the ACDC Act (or able to obtain within 2 months), and a Senior First Aid and CPR certificate (or able to obtain within 2 months).

Desirable skills

• Chainsaw certification (trim and cut felled trees)
• Prescribed burn crew member certification
• Safe off-road 4WD operation training
