Intermediate Ecologist

About the role

CQG Consulting, part of Beca, is seeking intermediate-level ecologists to join its ecology and environmental team in Rockhampton, Townsville and Brisbane. You will work in a collaborative team delivering ecological assessments and practical outcomes for clients in regional Queensland, with possible project management and specialist input to climate and nature resilience assessments.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, lead and carry out ecological field investigations, including flora, fauna and habitat surveys, and fauna capture, handling and relocation where qualified and authorised
• Prepare ecological assessments and reports supporting development applications, environmental approvals and project planning
• Contribute to proposals, scopes and fee estimates
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, project teams, regulators and stakeholders
• Manage projects and contribute specialist ecological input to climate and nature resilience assessments

Required profile

• Degree in ecology, environmental science, zoology, botany, freshwater science or a related discipline
• Practical field experience in ecology surveys (vegetation, habitat and species) in an Australian context
• Experience in terrestrial, aquatic and/or marine fauna ecology; fauna capture, handling and relocation experience highly regarded
• Understanding of natural resource management, biodiversity conservation and ecological impact assessment in Australia
• Sound understanding of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation and approval frameworks
• Current Australian driver's licence
