Legal Counsel

About the role

Urban Utilities, a water and wastewater provider serving 1.5 million people and more than 31,000 commercial customers across South East Queensland, is hiring a Legal Counsel reporting to the General Counsel. The role provides legal expertise mainly for commercial and project matters, and also supports general advisory, contract, environment and regulatory matters. It acts as a trusted business partner to internal clients, advising on policies and procedures and escalating complex issues appropriately.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on commercial, project, contract, environment and regulatory matters
• Act as a business partner to internal clients, guiding them on policies and procedures
• Resolve queries and escalate complex issues appropriately
• Build capabilities within the wider organisation through training and coaching

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Law and admission as a legal practitioner in QLD
• 4+ years' experience in a similar role
• Proactive, commercially minded legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to balance stakeholder needs while supporting positive business outcomes

• Interpreting and applying legislation, policies, regulations and compliance obligations
