Legal Counsel – Buildings & Transport

About the role

Join AECOM's Australia and New Zealand Legal Team as a Legal Counsel supporting Buildings and Transportation businesses. Based in Melbourne, you will work closely with project teams and business leaders to provide commercial legal advice on complex infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of contracts including consultancy, framework, sub‑contracts, joint venture and confidentiality agreements.
• Provide legal advice on project pursuits, tenders, procurement processes, risk allocation and contract negotiation strategies.
• Support project teams throughout the lifecycle from bid stage to delivery and assist with internal approvals and governance.
• Advise on disputes, claims, contractual issues and commercial risk management.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Buildings + Places and Transportation and support compliance, governance, IP, insurance and corporate matters.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Law and admission to practice in Australia.
• Approximately 3–6 years post‑admission experience in private practice or in‑house.
• Strong commercial acumen with ability to provide pragmatic, solutions‑focused legal advice.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

Required skills

• Experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Knowledge of procurement processes, tendering and major project delivery.
• Ability to support multidisciplinary teams across complex infrastructure projects.
