Laboratory Assistant - Wet Chemistry

About the role

Bureau Veritas Minerals is hiring Laboratory Assistants for its Wet Chemistry and Spectral Laboratory at Canning Vale, Perth. The role involves preparing and processing geoanalytical samples and operating FTIR/ASD instrumentation, with the prospect of progressing into ICP instrumentation operation and QA/QC roles.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and weigh samples for geoanalytical processes such as acid digestion/ICP analysis and FTIR/ASD analysis
• Operate FTIR/ASD instruments, calibrate them and monitor sample spectra to maintain quality
• Digest client samples using hazardous chemicals such as hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sodium peroxide
• Follow laboratory SOPs, safety practices and chemical management plans
• Carry out safety walks, inspections and audits, and meet quality, turnaround time and KPI targets
• Maintain good laboratory housekeeping and communicate with the team

Required profile

• Previous experience in a geoanalytical/minerals laboratory or equivalent
• Experience of inorganic chemistry laboratory techniques (essential)
• Knowledge of chemical safety and storage (highly regarded)
• Reliable attendance, good work ethic and physically fit for manual handling
• Methodical, well organised and able to work in a production team focused on quality and safety
