Internal Audit Manager – Utilities Sector

About the role

The client, a highly regarded Melbourne‑based utilities company, is expanding its internal audit function and seeks a senior professional to act as the second‑in‑command. This role offers the chance to shape audit strategy, work with AI‑driven initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute risk‑based internal audit strategies and plans covering key business areas and emerging risks.
• Lead end‑to‑end audits, from planning and fieldwork to reporting and recommendations.
• Prepare high‑quality audit reports and present findings to senior management.
• Manage relationships with co‑source partners to ensure effective delivery.
• Use data analytics to identify trends, emerging risks and opportunities for control improvement.
• Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and foster a collaborative culture.
• Support the Head of Internal Audit in continuous improvement and maintaining a high‑performing function.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, IT, Engineering or a related field.
• Professional certifications such as IIA, CIA, CPA, CA.
• Background in professional services or large corporate environments with exposure to financial, IT and operational audits.
• Extensive internal audit experience within a large, complex organisation.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Experience in the utilities/energy sector is a plus.
