Insurance Litigation Solicitor – Canberra

About the role

We are seeking a newly admitted solicitor to join our Insurance Litigation team in Canberra on a permanent, full‑time basis. You will work on defendant files for insurers and government clients, receiving mentoring from a Principal and support from the wider team.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and assist with defendant insurance litigation matters, taking carriage of smaller claims under supervision.
• Draft advices, pleadings, submissions, briefs and correspondence.
• Conduct legal research, analyse claim materials and liaise with clients, insurers, barristers and experts.
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences and court proceedings, negotiate settlements and support dispute resolution.
• Maintain court processes, deadlines and file progression while building strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Newly admitted or within the first year of practice with a genuine interest in defendant insurance litigation.
• Interest in workers' compensation, CTP and public liability matters; exposure to ACT workers' compensation is a plus.
• Confident communicator able to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Strong analytical, research and problem‑solving abilities with excellent written communication.
• Well‑organised, able to manage competing priorities and deadlines, and eager to learn and take ownership of matters.
