Head of Risk, Compliance & Legal

About the role

Skip-loans is a fast‑growing fintech lender seeking a senior leader to take its risk, compliance and legal framework to the next level of maturity. Reporting to the COO and with direct access to the Board Risk Committee, you will own the risk appetite, compliance monitoring and legal contracting layers, ensuring the business can scale safely.

Key responsibilities

• Own and continuously improve the regulatory compliance and enterprise risk registers, covering NCCP, ASIC guides, AML/CTF, Privacy Act, Consumer Data Right and AFCA obligations.
• Define and maintain the risk appetite statement, enabling product and operations teams to make decisions within pre‑approved boundaries.
• Design and run automated compliance monitoring across origination, servicing, collections and hardship processes.
• Manage the contract register, template agreements and contracting playbook, and oversee external counsel budgets.
• Lead the incident, breach and outsourcing registers, including root‑cause analysis, remediation tracking and business continuity testing.
• Prepare and present the Risk Committee pack and board risk reporting, and act as the primary contact for funder, rating agency and auditor due diligence.

Required profile

• Senior experience in risk, compliance or legal functions within a regulated financial services environment.
• Proven ability to build and scale governance frameworks, automate processes and report directly to senior leadership or boards.
• Strong understanding of Australian credit, AML/CTF, privacy and consumer data regulations.
• Excellent judgment with the authority to veto decisions that threaten brand or business integrity.
