Government Lawyer – Public & Administrative Law

About the role

We are seeking an experienced public, administrative or government lawyer to join a leading national firm’s practice advising major government agencies on complex and sensitive matters. The role offers genuine opportunities to deepen expertise, collaborate with senior stakeholders and influence public outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑impact advisory and review work for government agencies, including NDIA/NDIS, Department of Home Affairs and NSW Police matters.
• Manage a diverse range of files, conduct statutory compliance, evidence collation and merits review.
• Collaborate directly with senior government stakeholders and contribute to policy‑level decisions.

Required profile

• 2–7 years post‑qualification experience in public, government, administrative or regulatory law.
• Strong understanding of administrative decision‑making, procedural fairness and the ADJR/merits review framework.
• Excellent written advocacy and advisory drafting skills.
• Confidence managing multiple matters and working directly with government stakeholders.
• Proactive, collaborative mindset with interest in issues that have real public impact.
