Head of Department of Law – Associate Professor

About the role

Kingston University’s Faculty of Business and Social Sciences is seeking a dynamic academic leader to head the Department of Law. The role combines senior management responsibilities with a professorial appointment, driving the department’s teaching, research and recruitment agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Department of Law, overseeing academic staff, support teams and budgets.
• Develop and deliver a high‑quality, market‑relevant law curriculum that meets student and employer expectations.
• Lead student recruitment initiatives in line with the university’s Town House growth targets.
• Foster interdisciplinary collaboration with the School of Law, Social & Behavioural Sciences and other faculties.
• Maintain and improve the department’s performance in national student surveys and teaching excellence frameworks.
• Represent the department in external partnerships, professional bodies and accreditation processes.

Required profile

• Proven senior management experience in a higher‑education setting.
• Strong academic record in law, with an understanding of contemporary legal issues and professional practice.
• Demonstrated ability to innovate in teaching and curriculum design.
• Excellent people‑management and leadership skills, with a commitment to the university’s strategic vision.
• Experience in driving student recruitment and enhancing student experience.
