Director of Engineering

About the role

Sheraton is hiring a Director of Engineering for a property in Port Douglas, Queensland. The role provides a high level of property maintenance knowledge and carries overall responsibility for maintaining the building, grounds and physical plant, with particular attention to safety, security and asset protection. It also covers the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance and energy conservation, and leads the emergency response team for all facility issues.

Key responsibilities

• Work with property and regional engineering leadership to assess performance against budget and highlight concerns.
• Manage the physical plant, including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment and electrical systems, in line with standard operating procedures.
• Administer service contracts and ensure the fire crew understands procedures, equipment and alarms.
• Coach the engineering leadership team on managing controllable expenses and control heat, light and power.
• Develop an engineering operating strategy aligned with the property's business strategy and manage the engineering budget.
• Maintain life safety systems such as fire fighting equipment, sprinkler systems and alarm systems, and ensure compliance with state, local and federal regulations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with 6 years of engineering and maintenance experience, or a 2-year accredited degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics or a related major with 4 years of experience.
• Technical training in HVAC-R, Electrical or Plumbing.
