Director of a Biomedical Research Institute

About the role

The ANZAC Research Institute seeks an outstanding senior academic to lead as Director. This fixed‑term, 5‑year role is based on the Concord Repatriation General Hospital campus in Sydney.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of the Institute’s strategic plan and provide scientific guidance.
• Liaise with Sydney Local Health District and University of Sydney leadership on operational and financial management.
• Report regularly to the ANZAC Advisory Council on research performance.
• Serve on the School of Medical Sciences leadership team and promote research translation with SLHD and industry partners.

Required profile

• Research doctoral degree (PhD, MD or equivalent) with an outstanding record in biomedical research relevant to ageing or related health specialties.
• Proven ability to deliver internationally‑standard research, secure significant competitive funding, and supervise successful HDR students.
• Evidence of peer recognition through committee, board, editorial roles and national/international collaborations.
• Demonstrated capacity to provide scientific leadership in a complex biomedical environment and promote a strong research culture.
• Understanding of research governance, ethical conduct, and ability to manage industry engagement.
