About the role
HammondCare, an independent Christian charity supporting people to stay in their homes, offers a community volunteering role called Community Mate. It is a social visitor position focused on mateship and company, helping an older person feel connected, heard and part of the community. Visits are one hour long, with no pressure, just a friendly face and time spent together.
Key responsibilities
- Visit the matched older person for about one hour, once a week, between Monday and Sunday, 9am to 5pm.
- Chat in a relaxed way and be a steady, supportive presence.
- Help reduce isolation and improve the quality of life of the person you visit.
Required profile
- Aged 18 or older.
- National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
- Willingness to commit to one-hour visits for 6 months or longer.
- No special skills needed; a laid-back chat and a willingness to spend time together is enough.
