Category Manager - Trade (Beverages)

About the role

ALH Hotels, which owns and operates more than 350 Australian pubs, is looking for a Category Manager - Trade to lead category strategy and growth for its Beverages category. The role sits in the ALH Hotels Merchandise team, is based in either Melbourne or Sydney and is hybrid. It is a high-impact commercial position that leads the 6-18 month category strategy, using data and insights to improve sales, profitability and growth across the on-premise beverage offer.

Key responsibilities

• Create and execute the 6-18 month category strategy for the ALH value proposition, aligning team and supplier goals
• Drive category sales, margins and profitability against budget, with daily and weekly financial reporting
• Run strategic promotions, build accurate forecasts, manage post-promotional reviews and communicate plans across teams
• Lead trading terms and pricing negotiations, including CPI and competitor analysis reviews
• Cultivate supplier partnerships, lead the supply captains programme and activate on-premise occasions such as sports, holidays and major events
• Mentor and develop direct reports (ACM Trade), with regular feedback, development plans and succession planning

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in category management, promotions and/or product marketing in a fast-paced commercial environment
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing or a related field
• Experience in hospitality or on-premise businesses, in matrixed or agile organisations
• Proven ability to lead, develop and inspire teams

Required skills

• Data analysis, market research and P&L management
• Negotiation and relationship-building
• Proficiency in spreadsheets, slide presentations and analytical software
• Familiarity with category management software and supply chain principles
