Cardiac Surgery Fellow

About the role

Children's Health Queensland (CHQ) is recruiting a Cardiac Surgery Fellow. The fellow delivers medical services through clinical duties at Fellow level, following the service's policies, practices and values, and contributes to evidence-based practice, research and quality improvement, including clinical audits and risk management. The fellow also helps develop junior medical staff and train medical and allied health students.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in regular assessment and performance reviews, and in unit and facility-based educational programs, meeting mandatory training requirements.
• Act as a role model for professionalism, confidentiality, patient dignity, clear communication and accurate medical records.
• Teach and supervise junior medical staff, medical students and other members of the multidisciplinary team, and undertake skills-based training.
• Document patient care appropriately and timely, including progress notes, correspondence, reports and discharge planning.
• Contribute to a positive divisional culture that recognises high performance, builds leadership and supports staff wellbeing.
• Work in a multidisciplinary team, taking part in teaching and supervision of advanced trainees and fellows.
• Develop skills in evaluating published research and designing research projects.
• May work shifts including weekends and public holidays, and may be on call, including the General Paediatric After Hours and Weekends roster.
