Associate Engineer - Roads & Highways

About the role

SMEC, a global engineering consultancy, is looking for an Associate Engineer for its Roads & Highways practice in Hobart. The role combines technical leadership and project delivery expertise with client engagement, business development and mentoring engineers, helping to grow the Roads & Highways capability in Tasmania.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of road and highway design projects from concept through to completion.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight across multidisciplinary project teams.
• Manage project scope, programme, quality and commercial outcomes.
• Develop and strengthen relationships with clients and industry partners across Tasmania.
• Review designs, calculations and technical deliverables.
• Support project pursuits, proposals and business development activities.
• Identify opportunities to grow the Roads & Highways capability locally and mentor, coach and develop engineers and graduates.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years' experience delivering roads and highways projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing project delivery and technical outcomes.
• Experience leading and mentoring engineers.
• Chartered status, or a commitment to obtaining relevant professional registration.

• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
