Electrical Designer (Distribution)
Megavar · Hobart
Job description
About the role
Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering distribution design, primary and secondary design, testing and commissioning, and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across several states. It is looking for an Electrical Designer to join its distribution design team, delivering overhead and underground distribution design on TasNetworks network projects and learning alongside experienced designers and engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Overhead distribution design and modelling from LV (415 V) to 33 kV.
- Underground distribution extensions and network upgrades.
- Site inspections and surveys, and preparation of scoping notes and design packages for client approval.
- Preparation of bills of materials and design estimates.
- Application of TasNetworks and local utility design standards, with a focus on cost-effective, practical solutions.
- Liaising with clients, internal teams and external stakeholders through design and approval.
Required profile
- Advanced Diploma or degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience designing for an Australian distribution network business.
- At least 2 years' experience in electrical design of distribution networks; TasNetworks design experience is highly regarded.
- Site experience supporting distribution projects through construction and commissioning.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own design workload as experience grows.
- Attention to detail and discipline to meet deadlines.
- Current driver's licence.
Required skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or AutoCAD Map.
What we offer
- Ownership of designs from site inspection to approved package, without the layers of a large consultancy.
- Exposure to a broader HV design team covering substation primary, secondary and SCADA design for clients including TasNetworks, ElectraNet, TransGrid and Downer.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Flexible working arrangements, based in Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle, as part of a close-knit team across five offices.
- Relocation assistance for the right candidate moving interstate.
- An attractive salary package benchmarked to experience, with genuine opportunities for progression.
