About the role
The Associate Director – Project Architect will lead the design and delivery of complex, safety‑critical facilities in highly regulated environments such as defence, research and nuclear infrastructure. You will provide architectural leadership across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring design intent is maintained from concept through to delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Lead architectural design and delivery for defence, research and nuclear projects, translating safety case and regulatory requirements into robust design solutions.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (architecture, structural, services, specialist systems) to produce cohesive, high‑quality outcomes.
- Maintain design integrity across all project stages and ensure compliance with standards such as Defence, NCC, IAEA and other nuclear frameworks.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders, building trusted relationships and aligning project objectives.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and continuous improvement for project teams.
Required profile
- Accredited degree in Architecture with registration (or eligibility) as an Architect in Australia.
- 10–15+ years of architectural experience, including leadership on complex, safety‑critical projects.
- Proven experience as Project Architect or Principal Consultant on medium to large‑scale projects.
- Experience in highly regulated environments (defence, laboratories, pharmaceutical, healthcare or nuclear).
- Australian citizenship or eligibility for AUKUS clearance; NSQEP recognition is highly regarded.
Required skills
- Architectural design and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of Defence design standards, government delivery frameworks and nuclear regulatory compliance (IAEA, NCC).
- Safety‑in‑design principles and human factors integration.
- Complex systems integration in high‑hazard environments.
